Well…it’s certainly been a while. Fresh off a much-needed vacation, I’m hoping to resume writing here semi-regularly at least.
I think I needed the time off. Work has been good, but busy. And suddenly faced with that wonderful thing known as “free time,” something I’d only dreamt about in grad school, I suddenly had way too many things to catch up on–Books! Movies! TV shows! Videogames!
I finally saw The Wire, and can agree that it is a front-runner for Greatest TV Show Ever Made. I bought a nice camera for the first time since my non-digital SLR, and have been enjoying the advances made in camera technology over the past 10 years. I took some weekend trips, both around the DC area and further away, and have been to a number of exhibitions in the various DC museums (the latest being a show of Hokusai’s 36 views of Mount Fuji, which was really lovely.)
Overall, it’s been good. And it’s not like I haven’t thought of things to write about, or share. But I spend all day reading and writing in front of a computer, after which the thought of coming home to sit and write at my computer just wasn’t as appealing. Especially given all these other interests I wanted to catch up on.
But not only am I more refreshed (and more caught up), but my office also recently moved (to the nice old National Academy of Sciences building next to the Lincoln Memorial), and so now I take the bus to work. It takes a bit longer, but I get to sit and it’s a lot more relaxing, and that’s where I typed all of this, on my iPhone. And I finished it up on my iPad at home, leaning back comfortably rather than feeling like I’m still working, hunched over my computer (thankfully I don’t seem to have too much of a problem typing on either device).
I’m hoping that combination lets me write more. But regardless, isn’t technology wonderful 🙂
