Photographed: Ratchet-Like Cell Mechanism that Pulls Wounds Shut | Popular Science.
A short piece I did for Popular Science magazine’s Megapixels section, which features a two-page spread photograph. The web version is available at PopSci.com at the link above. They’re usually pretty stunning, and I like this fluorescent image of dorsal closure in a fruit fly embryo because, like a lot of Megapixels, it represents some good science as well, which I always find satisfying.
Science Illustrated has a similar section called Bull’s-Eye, and I was looking for a good image for the next issue. I found out that it can be surprisingly hard to quickly find medical or scientific images that look good, are fairly recent, have a good story behind them, and are available at a high enough resolution to fill 2 magazine pages…I always love those image-rich sections of the magazines, and I won’t be taking those for granted anymore 🙂
