A nice article on how serious research is often simplified in the press releases to make it seem either obvious or meaningless. It just goes to show that to appreciate the importance of most research one needs to know its context. A lot of the time, it seems like research’s importance is exaggerated, or it’s made to seem wackier or more obvious than it is, in an effort to attract attention. Which seems ok to a point, but not if it detracts from the actual reason for the research.
